On your marks, get set, BOOM!! This spring season, BCHS’s track athletes and coaches have been hard at work out on the field. We have had many newcomers of all grades that have joined the team. Along with new track members, we have gained some fresh coaches to introduce. Ready to coach with extensive experience being a sprinter in his highschool days, we welcome Mr. Armstrong, the new boys head coach! Who not only was the special teams coach for football, but has also coached high school swim and baseball over the last 25 years. The Head coach for girls track remains Coach Miz, who has done this for multiple years; he has also had a huge involvement in cross country during the fall season. Adding to the coaching staff, triple and high jump has been preparing with their new coach, Maggie Roe! Even though Coach Roe was a thrower back in highschool, her major in college was sports medicine which taught her a lot about the science behind jumping. She was also majorly inspired by her father Mr. Roe, who also took part in coaching track in the past. Junior Zack Hesterman decided to join track this year doing high jump with Maggie. He says, “Coach Roe is very supportive and has been an exceptional coach for high jumping.”
All of BCHS’s track and field athletes have expressed an abundance of appreciation for the coaches. Some even include seniors helping out their fellow teammates. A highly respectable senior who has been coaching his peers is Dylan Ruschak . Newcomer thrower for both disc and shot put, Bryson Acree (11) remarks that Dylan has really helped him improve. “Schak is a really good thrower. After I went out to throw my first disc he pulled me to the side, gave me some tips, and when I went back out my throw went up by like ten feet” Acree exclaims when asked about his teammate Dylan. Senior Logan Goode did not fail to mention how he considers his best friend Paul Moll (12) one of his coaches when it comes to his sprinting technique. This goes to show how supportive and encouraging our teams are towards each other.
The coaches of course all have their minds set on winning regions and sending kids to state. Most importantly though, they are hyper focused on the students success both academically and athletically. All of the track and field events have been motivated and have really been putting in the work to become better at what they do. This year our track and field team is ready to stride with pride!
