
The involvement and appreciation students at BCHS have for tunefulness keeps our music program up and running. Our musical electives, such as band, choir, and guitar, are some of our most admired electives due to the amount of students who have left such positive reviews on them. An outstanding student within all of these classes is senior trumpet player, Austin Royce. Austin has stayed busy and occupied her senior year making sure every second counts.
Austin has the ultimate schedule containing all music and dual enrollment classes. Austin expresses how senior year has both pros and cons, how her senior year has definitely been full of responsibilities and of course that side of senioritis, but has also been the most educational, moving her that extra step towards adulthood. She has gained an immense amount of knowledge, friendship, and experience as well as strengthening her skill prior throughout her 24’-25’ school year. One of the many things Austin has an overwhelming amount of gratitude for how people look up to her and trust her with important tasks. Natalie Carranza, a senior in both BCHS’s band and jazz band class, expresses how Austin is “always on top of it and is always ready to step in and help. As a senior myself, I look up to her and can already see her hard work and kindness really paying off.” She is glad to be a part of the music program and be able to create something bigger than herself.
For a major musically inclined person, Austin has an utmost amount of hobbies outside of music. In her spare time she spends time out in nature, doing puzzles, writing in her journal, and spending time with her friends and family. Royce also takes her time to learn Spanish, photography, and additionally improving her reading and writing. “We always have a choice, and we can always choose to do what’s right.” is a quote from Spiderman 3 that Austin keeps faith with and applies to her life.
Austin is currently working on her college auditions for the School of Music at the University of Nevada, Reno which she is already enrolled in! In the fall, she plans to get a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a minor in psychology. Royce aspires to be a middle school band director, get her Master’s in Educational Leadership, and eventually become a high school band director. Austin exclaims, “I hope that I can be the best teacher I can be and help my students like how my teachers have helped me.” She has showed a great amount of love and gratitude for BCHS’s music program and everyone in it. Austin has definitely made a mark and will be remembered for her musical passion.
