It’s nothing new that Boulder City High School is home to many astounding students. However, our newsletter would like to recognize one in particular. Mary June Karlsen isn’t just an exemplary student, she’s a riveting person, too.
In school MJ makes good grades, but mostly enjoys her arts classes. She’s an alluring artist, as well as a strong writer. She specifically recollected her last two English classes (Mrs. Gomez & Mrs. Strachan) and said they engrossed her. However, what revealed to be most intriguing about her was what her peers had to share about her.
Smart, authentic, accommodating, caring, involved. When her classmates were asked what they thought of her, there were nothing but wonderful remarks.
“She’s always making things, she’s really creative,” Zoe Fox shared, “and super smart, too.”
Karlsen likes to crochet and sew marvelous crafts, and has an occupation in mind that’s equally fascinating. She aspires to be a mortician (someone who embalms and prepares the dead’s remains for their funeral). While she’s aware it’s not a common goal, she’s captivated by it.
“Yeah, she’s like always going out of her way to help everyone with school or anything she can,” Itzali Skousen joined.
Another thing that Karlsen stated was that she particularly wants to be a mortician because it helps the relatives of those who pass. She finds it aids the grieving process, however unusual. Mary June also volunteers for the boy scouts frequently, whether for the school or her own ambitions. She continues to prove that she is selfless, thoughtful, and admirably determined.
Advice MJ has for her colleagues is to make classes you require a priority (ex. foreign language) in order to ease the rest of your high school experience. She is a member of our bowling team, and encourages other students to join a sport in order to meet and connect with unfamiliar people in a way that they enjoy doing.
MJ Karlsen is compassionate, zealous, responsible, doting, and much more. She’s an incredible standard for all BCHS students. If you’re weak of stomach I wouldn’t recommend being a mortician, but I’d recommend everyone to learn from MJ!
