Emerson Prestwhich is one of Boulder City High School’s most honorable freshmen. Having this being his first year of high school, he has already had a big impact on others. When asked about Emerson, fellow freshman Lane Coleman stated that
during this year’s soccer season, he is an extraordinary guy on and off the field. “Emerson made sure to always be a positive leader when it came to tough battles on the field. Not only that, but he managed to maintain his grades. Overall, he’s just a good guy!” Coleman voiced. Emerson was thrilled to hear this. He made him want to work even harder and is glad he is able to set an example for other people. He tries to lead others by showing up on time, working hard, and bringing up others when they are down.
“Good, Better, Best, Never let it rest, Until your good is better and your better is best.” A quote by St. Jerome, Emersons baseball coach growing up, spoke to him and his team. This is a motto that has really stuck with him his whole life. This could be considered the beginning of Emerson’s influential motives. Prestwich postulates that an honorable leader and student needs to be someone who listens, is responsible, and stays calm under pressure. “You can’t lead effectively if you don’t consider other people’s opinions or needs.” Emerson says confidently. A strategy when it comes to academics he avoids holding off until the last minute. He likes to do a little bit each day instead of cramming it all at the due date. He makes sure to ask questions when he doesn’t understand whether that is during class or after school. No one likes studying, but Emerson stays on top of it. When he can, he studies with friends and they quiz each other to make studying more enjoyable.
High School was a major shift for Emerson. He claims it to be a lot more challenging. Despite the challenges, he is appreciative that highschool feels more independent. In middle school, everything is more structured and the teachers keep a closer eye on you. While in high school, you have to make sure to keep an eye on yourself. Despite academics, Emerson plans to enjoy his time with sports. He plans to play soccer and basketball all four years and switch from volleyball his freshman year to baseball for the rest of them. As well as many people in school, Emersons biggest motive is college. This is what really makes him push himself and keep him on top of school. Unsure of what he wants to major in or pursue, he wants to do well so when he does figure it out he can get accepted into a strong school. Based on his high school experience so far he found the hardest part is adjusting to all the new responsibilities. Nonetheless, he has found it exhilarating.
Emerson has been noticed and chosen to be recognized for his righteous acts as a student, athlete, and peer. Staff and students have seen these compelling qualities he has shown and we thank him for that. Some advice he’d like to give is that the harder you work the luckier you will seem to become. Emerson Prestwich is an upstanding motivator, leader, and most importantly a noble friend!
