As the Boulder City High School wrestling team prepares to kick off the new season, the wrestlers are excited to be out with intramurals and in with matches! After weeks of intense practice, getting into shape, friendly competition, and lots and lots of conditioning, the BCHS wrestlers are very excited to start off the beginning of a wonderful season. The intramural season has provided a valuable opportunity for both seasoned wrestlers and newcomers to sharpen their technique and conditioning.
The wrestlers have been doing extremely well while being properly trained by Head Coach Clinton Garvin and Assistant Coaches, Kevin Ruth, Caleb Ramsey Brown, and Ty Washburn. During practices, wrestlers have been working incredibly hard on technique, doing quite a good amount of conditioning, repetitions, and stances which all help to work on building up endurance. Head Coach Garvin says that he hopes that the kids fall in love with wrestling and keep going throughout high school.
The team Coach Garvin is in the making of is “A team that is willing to go out on the mat, take chances, make mistakes, learn from our mistakes and get back in the practice room and get better. A team that has fun and can depend on each other no matter the circumstance.”
The team’s goals to accomplish this year is going to regionals and then state and be focused on wrestling and not everything that comes along with it. Kaila Shelton, Junior, says that to improve her mindset she listens to music. Along with that, Junior Bethannie Carranza said to sharpen her mental ability, she has to go into practice, or a match with a good attitude. She says that you can’t look at stats and get nervous, you just have to go into the match feeling confident, not worried about the chance of losing. Bethannie also says to stay positive and be kind to others while also having some self discipline. We are all looking forward to watching these extraordinary students during their season of wrestling!
