You hear the cheers, see the stunts and watch the dances. At every football and basketball game there is a team to support the players no matter how the game plays out. But what they do is so much more than just shaking pom poms.
After many exceptional performances and a big win at the Knotts Berry Farm competition last season, the BCHS Cheer Team is continuing to push themselves all throughout the year. Endless hours of work, performances, and dedication help strengthen their skills and sharpen the team.
Between games, assemblies, and community events, the cheer team is kept busy all season. Amaya Henderson, a junior says“One thing most people don’t understand about cheer is that we take care of ourselves and other sports at the same time”. The team makes posters for players, run-through signs and brings a positive attitude to support our Eagles through everything.
When in practice, the girls are learning new stunts, and perfecting their routines. Senior Kira Gardener states “Cheerleading is more than smiles and cheers. It’s built on trust, strength and skill. Every stunt demands hours of practice and unbreakable bonds,”.Through falls and fails, the team learns lessons and grows together to become the best they can be.
The morning practice, extra hours and endless repetition can get tiring, but the cheerleaders manage it all with bright smiles on their faces. The team is ready to cheer on boys and girls basketball through many wins this season and show off all of the work they have put into this year.
