Boulder City High School’s Flag Football team, the Lady Eagles, had a wonderful season this year, making it all the way to the state championship game. The Lady Eagles fought their hearts out at Allegiant Stadium, but it was not quite enough as they fell to Virgin Valley 19-6. Although it was a disappointing ending, we are all so proud of our flag team and we are all excited to see what the next flag season will bring us!
As a sport that has only been sanctioned by the state since 2016, flag football has been blowing up recently. Nevada is one of the first states to recognize Girls Flag football as a highschool sport. As of today, 14 states have officially sanctioned Girls Flag Football as a highschool varsity sport, with many more running pilot programs. States like Florida, California and New York, for example, are leading the way, proving that Flag Football is here to stay.
Boulder City has had a wonderful Flag team for a long time now. The team’s achievements were guided by a dedicated coaching staff. Including, Head Coach: Mrs. Cameron, and Assistant Coaches: Mr. Reese, Mr. Mariani, and Ms. Carducci. Several athletes played pivotal roles in the team’s success; such as senior Noelle Payne, She averaged 85.3 rushing yards per game, amassing a total of 1,706 rushing yards for the season. Noelle isn’t the only amazing player on the team but she is definitely one to be recognised.
Anyone who plays flag football says it is among the best experiences of their lives. Freshman Addy Welbourn says, “deciding to play flag football was one of the best decisions I made and I encourage everyone to play it!” The Eagles concluded the season with an impressive overall record of 17-4 and a league record of 14-1, securing second place in the 3A Southern division. Their journey included notable victories such as a commanding 38-8 win against Valley High School on December 2, 2024, and a decisive 26-0 triumph over Western High School on January 13, 2025.
The win streak led the Lady Eagles to the NIAA 3A state championship game February 20, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The team showcased determination and skill, ultimately losing a hard fought game and finishing as state runner-up for the second consecutive season. BCHS battled against Virgin Valley High School for the state title, but ultimately fell 19-6.
Despite the setback in the state championship, Boulder City High School’s flag football program continues to demonstrate resilience and competitiveness. With a strong foundation and community support, the team is poised to remain a contender in future seasons, striving to overcome past challenges and achieve championship success.
