Victoria Gell is an incredible senior in our BCHS theater program. She is a huge contributor to the program and represents a large part of it. Victoria has had a passion for theater since she was just four years old. Her first role was “Lamb #1” in the nativity scene in kindergarten, where her passion for theater all began.
She has been helping out with our BCHS theater program since she came to Boulder City High School her Junior year. She plays an extremely important role as the current State Troupe Officer for our BCHS Theater and the Publicist for the upcoming BCHS Theatre instagram account. Along with theater, she also participates in drama club where she is a leader.
Victoria feels that theater is a constant part of her life as it has grown with her throughout her life. When I asked Victoria why she wanted to be a part of the theater program she said, “Theater has always been something I’ve felt necessary to keep in my life. I cannot even envision my life without it.”
As Victoria continues to explore her role in theater she has done theater in and outside of school. She has actively been involved in the Seedling Theater Company where she has been in a variety of musicals and helped choreograph shows. Throughout this journey she has been in 15 plays, her favorite being Spongebob the Musical.
While the theater production comes to a start, Victoria is extremely excited. She has lots of ideas to hopefully pursue this year. When I asked her for advice for someone just joining the theater program, she said, “Do not take it too seriously. Theater is one of the most accepting places to try new and outrageous things!” Victoria feels that theater really helped her express herself and become more confident. Some of her strongest relationships have formed within theater. One of her favorite parts of theater is watching people come out of their shell and embrace the ridiculousness.
Victoria often gets nervous before a play, being filled with anticipation and anxiety. Although she is nervous before the play she said, “I’ve personally never experienced stage fright. I consider myself one of the lucky people who have never felt awkward or scared on stage. The word I’d use to describe how I feel on stage is free.”
Lastly I talked to Victoria about future plans and goals she has. She plans to attend UNLV in the 2025-2026 school year. She wants to major in Marketing and minor in musical theater. After college she hopes to pursue a career in theater and to grow the community of theater. When I asked her where do you see yourself in five years she said, “In five years I see myself opening my own theater company for kids of all ages.” Victoria is overall an outstanding part of our theater and she hopes to continue growing the theater program after she graduates.
