There is a sport on the rise. No, it’s not played on a court or field, but actually from the comfort of your own chair! E Sports are a subset of video game content. Like traditional sports, many E Sports tend to feature the same structure, such as having leagues, teams, and players. Nowadays, most high schools offer these competitive games for anyone who is interested in them. One of these high schools is our very own BCHS!
E Sports started gaining traction after Covid-19 struck, because of the new popularity, you can even get scholarships from E Sports! Yes, you heard that right, you can get a full ride scholarship from playing video games. HSEL has distributed over $700,000 in scholarships alone! E Sports has given so many opportunities to kids around the globe to show and express their passion, talents, and dreams to the world. If your passion and/or dream is to play competitive video games or if you want to try something new, why not go for it.
The E Sports club participates in the High School E Sports League (HSEL). Each season, a variety of online games are offered to play. Teams compete against schools across the country. You can find the games on the HSEL website. In order to compete, you need to join HSEL and the BCHS Eagles team. You choose which games you want to play and be sure you have a team of the correct size for the game you have chosen. The coach of the team is Mr Schulz, let the coach of the E Sports team know when you are registered, so he can put your team on a roster. Then once you sign up you can compete as a team. You play from anywhere you normally play. Some games are cross consoles, this means you can play video games on almost any device, so you can play from a PC ( personal computer), X-box, Nintendo Switch, or other options.
