With precision, patience, and perseverance, the girls Golf team has risen up to 2nd in their league. Led by Coach Reese, the team consists of a diverse group of athletes, each bringing their own unique strength to the course.
Coach Reese has been at BCHS for 27 years teaching as a math teacher, also being a P.E., weight lifting, and student council teacher. He has coached many different sports every year he has been here. This is his second year being a golf coach so far and he plans to keep doing it. He started golfing when he was young and stuck with it throughout his life. Reese says, “I have been golfing since I was a kid. my dad would take me out to the course when I was 8.”
We’ve asked him some questions about the team, one of them being, “What is your favorite thing about coaching golf?” his response to that was, “Watching the girls compete and succeed. Facing adversity and finding ways to navigate it.” says Coach Reese.
In a sport where patience is key, the BCHS girls golf team has quietly become one of the fiercest competitors in the region. It hasn’t been easy either, with practices from 2:30- 4 everyday after school, to balancing with schoolwork, these girls have been faced with challenges.
Reese said he started coaching to get to know students on a different level, to let kids be comfortable and come to him if they need anything. Having a good bond with the girls is the key to being an amazing coach.
With all their hard work the 5 girls goals for this year is to make it to state and win a state championship. And with the way they’ve been playing it seems like they will be making it to state.
