This year’s Varsity boys basketball season is looking like it’s going to have outstanding talent and success. The team this year has a lot of young talent coming in which is going to build up over the years. Although the expectations for the varsity team are pretty high, the team is going to do wonders this season. As Coach Ballistre gets his team ready for the season. Here’s what he has to say, “We have 7 of our 8 top guys that are returning, so I think we have a chance to be pretty good. Got a couple of young guys that are sophomores that are big and they are developing, coming along nicely.” Coach also says, “ The expectations are the same as always, to win the league, and put ourselves in position to win us a couple playoff games.” Coach wants the best for the team and how to improve them to the finest ability that they can play at. Coach said that seniors Luke Wright and Sean Pendelton were the two leaders that really caught his eye. He chose these players because they all have played on the varsity level since they were sophomores, and says they are going to be a major aspect to the team.
The starting point guard on the team is Luke Wright. He is a senior this year on the varsity basketball team and has been starting on the varsity level since he was a sophomore. Here is what Luke has to say, “My expectations are similar to perform as well as last year in the regular season expect to make state and win our region. The chemistry on the team is great, we all have the same goal.” Luke is an amazing player on the team and impacts the team very much.
Sean Pendelton is a senior playing on the varsity team for Coach Ballistre. Sean has also been playing varsity for the Eagles since he was a sophomore. Sean said, “My expectations are to have a fun season and to win a lot of games, there is a lot of competition and talent this year.” Sean also told me, “There is definitely some pressure being an upperclassman this year but it’s nothing new.” Sean is a team leader and as Coach said, Sean and Luke are going to lead the team because of the veterans they are, Everyone on the team has the same goal, get better, win games and have a splendid season!
This year’s Girls Varsity Basketball Team is hoping for an excellent season. The Girls Coach is Coach Bradshaw, he is one of the best girls basketball coaches we’ve had at BCHS. Coach Bradshaw says, “My expectations for this year’s team is to return to the playoffs and compete for a division championship. We return one of last year’s team Senior shooting guard Sophia Muelrath.” Coach also says, “ We are coming off our best off season since I have been coaching in Boulder and although we are going to be very inexperienced at the varsity level, our kids are committed to basketball. We do have a strong junior class that had a lot of success at the JV level last year.” This is going to be a very competitive season for the girls. The Coach’s game plan is to be aggressive on defense and the ability to shoot the basketball. He will also have an inside presence in the post which will help open up the outside shot.
Senior Shooting Guard, Sophia Mulerath averaged 10 points a game last year and is going to be a big asset to the Girls Basketball Team. Sophia says, “My expectations for this season are still developing. Right now, I hope that we as a team will be proud of the outcome of this season no matter if we win or lose. The team this year is unique in the sense that we all have our own strengths, all of which are crucial to our success.” She also says, “Practices are beneficial for our team especially this year since it allows us time to build relationships with each other on and off the court. We are growing to understand each other’s roles and our own types of play which is what will make us successful this year.” Coach Bradshaw is very excited for this season and is looking forward to winning it all!
The Boulder City Eagles Basketball Teams are looking forward to having a terrific season!
