Mrs. Rogers is the most perfect teacher you could ever ask for. She is a 9th grade Biology teacher, she actually switched from teaching at Basic High School to BCHS three years ago. Rogers says, “It was a definite welcomed change after nearly 20 years at my previous school. However the demographics at Boulder are vastly different from my previous school and that took a little time to get used to. The supportive admin team and very friendly staff made the acclimation process easier. I was very hesitant (initially), but hopefully optimistic that it was going to be a good move for me, and now mid-way through my 3 years I realize how fortunate I am to be here.”
Mrs. Rogers loves teaching kids and working with them, but it always wasn’t just teaching Biology. She states, “I knew that I always wanted to work with kids, but wasn’t sure in what capacity. I went to school with plans of pursuing a career in Physical Therapy, and then after a visit to see my childhood friend and her family, where we participated in activities & helped at a local high school I realized how much I loved the high school environment and the energy so after finishing my Bachelor’s Degree I worked to earn my Master’s and Teaching Credentials. While I really love science – I also love physical activity and sports, so I was hopeful to get a job teaching in either area. In hindsight I am glad I am licensed to teach both Science and PE – because I was only able to get a job back in 2001 due to science teaching positions being in high demand.”
Her kids in her classes are a real delight for her; she manages a lot of kids, having nearly every freshman in the school. Mrs. Rogers shares her favorite part about teaching, “ Well my favorite part of teaching high school is my kids and the activities. I enjoy getting to know my kids in the classroom and then seeing them outside of the classroom. I also am a fan of seeing them grow up and mature from freshman year to graduation.”
A lot of teachers are wonderful at teaching kids but I think that Mrs. Rogers is one that stands out because of the relationships she builds with students.Balancing teacher duties and discipline may be hard to keep that relationship while having high expectations of her kids. When thinking about relationships with her kids and discipline at the same time, Mrs. Rogers reflects, “I have never been a yeller or screamer. I am generally not one to lose my temper daily. I have expectations as to how kids should act and like to communicate that in a normal fashion.” I like the way Mrs. Rogers runs her classroom, she’s not a yeller and helps us with things that we need whenever.
We are so thrilled to have Mrs. Rogers here with us at Boulder City High School, and she is excited to be working with kids and teaching here at BCHS. She is an outstanding Biology teacher and in my opinion she is the most wonderful teacher you could ever ask for.
