Both of the girls soccer teams have started this fall season off with a bang! With Varsity taking 3 wins and 1 loss and JV taking 2 wins. The new head coach, Kristen Shelton, leads the team, alongside Assistant Coach Amanda Carducci. Both have coached soccer for BCHS before, and are looking forward to a great season for both teams. They both grew up playing soccer, along with other sports, and enjoy teaching the team how to constantly become better.
Shelton conveys that she enjoys the opportunity of being the new head coach, she states ¨..I really like it because I like helping shape the girls and I like to give them positive influence, I think it’s cool when women can be coached by women because it gives a such a different dynamic.¨ Senior Abby Francis, agrees and is excited for her last high school soccer season, she expresses: ¨I am most excited to see how we grow closer as a team and get to show it off on the field!¨
Last season, the girls took a loss in the first round of regionals, since then, the girls have been preparing to make their comeback and have their hearts set on winning the state championships. Senior Makayla Nelson, who was ranked sixth nationally for high school girls last season, is hopeful that all of the hard work on the field pays off, she exclaims: ¨Of course I want to win state! The team is showing great improvement this season. I believe we can continue to improve, support one another, and ultimately bring home the state championship. The hard work and unity we are building as a team are our strongest assets, and I have no doubt we can achieve our goal.¨
The girls have been practicing since the beginning of summer and have bonded as a team and it is starting to show off on the field. Freshman Sophie Elburn believes that practicing has been beneficial to the team, she states, “I think our practices have been helping our performance on the field because it helps us work better together and get stronger as a team.” As of right now, our Boulder City Girls soccer team is first in the league and are hoping to continue being first. The girls will continue to work hard on and off the field as they soar to success, and hopefully bring home state!
