Boulder City High School is all about making new traditions to bring our student body together. Since our usual Sadie Hawkins Dance has had low attendance the past couple of years, the sophomores of BCHS’ Student Council decided to throw a hangout type of event. After months spent planning, BCHS had its very first Hawaiian Luau on March 8th, 2025!
Student Council planned many events to try and get the students excited and hopefully attend this new event. Starting off with a spirit week full of dress up days! The themes were as followed: Splash of Red (wear lifeguard attire/red), Denim on the Docks (wear jorts/denim), Tropical Teacher Takeover (dress like a teacher), Luau Lids (wear a hat for $1), and Say Aloha to the Weekend! (wear Hawaiian gear). Many participated in these dress up days and showcased not only their school spirit, but their excitement.
Along with spirit week, STUCO hosted another first time event, a movie night! A QR code was put up on a screen in the SAC as well as the STUCO instagram where students voted which movie they wanted to watch. After being able to vote between Surfs Up, Lilo and Stitch and Teen Beach Movie, the winner was Teen Beach Movie! STUCO got in contact with Mr. Ruth to use his Snack Shack items for concessions; proceeds going towards his Snack Shack. For a movie night at the school, the turnout was good! Everyone who attended only had good things to say!

After a week full of school spirit, it was finally the day of the Luau! When the doors opened, students were surrounded by hawaiian themed posters, many games, a food truck and a DJ! The SAC was crowded with many playing card games, Mario Kart or simply just sitting and talking away from the music. The main party being in the courtyard with many playing four-square, gaga ball and corn hole! These games paired with fire music and delicious desserts from Chilly Jilly’z made the night a memorable one to everyone who showed up.
The Hawaiian Luau will go down in BCHS history as not only a happy memory for some, but hopefully a new school tradition for many future students to enjoy!
