Summer school is right around the corner for BCHS students, and whether you’re looking to get ahead, make up credits, or improve a grade, there are two main options available: in person classes or online courses through NVLA (Nevada Learning Academy). Here’s what you need to know to make the best choice and stay on track!
If you prefer a traditional classroom environment, in person summer school is available at two nearby locations: Basic High School and Foothill High School. These sessions run from May 29th through July 17th giving students enough time to complete up to two semesters worth of course work.
NVLA offers a more flexible, online alternative. Classes are available 24/7 through a computer-based learning management system. This format is ideal for students who prefer working at their own pace or need to work around other summer commitments. However, there are strict expectations:
- All tests and exams are given by Honorlock, requiring a webcam.
- Students must have access to a computer and reliable internet
- Weekly communication with teachers is required, and students are expected to stay on pace with their coursework.
The registration time period is April 21st to May 19th. The final day to pay fees online is May 27th and the cost is $100 per semester. To pay online, at campusportal.ccsd.net using a debit or credit card to pay a $4.95 convenience fee that applies. There are three main reasons students at BCHS enroll in summer school. These reasons are to get ahead, make up credits, and or improve their grades. To get started students need to speak with one of the BCHS counselors either Mrs. Cox, or Mr. Bradshaw to help you decide whether in person or online summer school is the best fit and assist with the registration process.
